Short-form video can be a tangible accelerator in creating moments that matter, providing a flexible and accessible method adaptable to various channels.
Combined with the power of AI, there is huge untapped potential with this technology for areas including – but not limited to – onboarding, cultivating organizational learning cultures with microlearning moments, and tricky areas such as compliance.
A poll of the webinar audience showed onboarding (32%) and L&D (37%) were the primary areas where HR leaders felt they could benefit most from AI video integration, followed by recruitment and talent acquisition (15%).
In this exclusive webinar, hosted in partnership with UNLEASH Startup Award 2023 winners Hour One, Nancy Cattle, Vice President of Learning Services at ValGenesis, and Deb Puett, Instructional Strategist at Jewell Unlimited, explored video best practices that are reshaping HR practices.
Sidestepping historic video challenges and removing process friction
Many organizations rely on video primarily for training, health & safety inductions, and development, however, there have historically been obstacles to creating flexible or customizable material with traditional video capabilities.
Hour One’s Head of Strategy, Natalie Monbiot, explained these included significant costs, a requirement for specialist expertise, production teams, and a lengthy and complicated editing process.
“We’re seeing a lot more companies, a lot more teams, and a lot more use cases for AI videos, because the barriers to video creation have lowered enormously,” she stated.
One of the benefits of AI-generated videos is that it replaces the need to have a camera in the first place.
Jewell Unlimited’s Puett detailed that due to a small workforce, using AI video allowed for quicker turnaround on learning video material, as well as incorporating greater diversity and representation into the final product.
“One of the things we found is reading tolerance has dropped as videos have become more popular,” she said.
“You can easily do that communication via video, rather than paper or pamphlet, whether it is in hiring practices or when you need to communicate initiatives.”
Ease of use and a polished product
With video content being primarily used by HR in introductory or learning capacities, having a polished product that is both engaging and efficient can make a significant difference to the user experience.
“With YouTube and all that you don’t have to be an expert to go out there and do a video,” commented ValGenesis’ Cattle.
“But if you’re in a professional company that’s not going to cut it. We can’t get away with ‘Oh, we’ll just pull somebody in and let them do a video.’ It works on YouTube, but it doesn’t work in a corporate environment.”
As Cattle detailed, the most significant benefit of adopting AI to produce video material is that “it makes my job easier”.
“It’s safe and it’s a good way to try it out and see what happens,” added Puett.
“AI is the future. So, dip your toe in it now while you can, when there’s very little risk and you can control the outcomes.”
