Artificial Intelligence (AI) has sparked both curiosity and concern among hiring teams and candidates alike.
By embracing innovation in AI, organizations can navigate the evolving landscape of recruitment with confidence and efficacy.
What's clear, is talent acquisition leaders, like the rest of HR, must understand the myth versus the reality, and what this could mean for their own unique contexts.

In this exclusive UNLEASH webinar, HireVue’s Chief Data Scientist, Dr. Lindsey Zuloaga, and Senior Global Communications Manager, Chelsea Kilpack, shared data from HireVue’s latest research study.
HireVue surveyed 1,000 HR leaders and 3,000 employees in the US, UK, and Australia to better understand attitudes around AI in the workplace.
70% of HR leaders said they were already using generative AI in the workplace (or planned to use it this year) – this was confirmed by a poll taken of the audience during the webinar, where 38% said they were extremely excited about the use of AI in the workplace.
During the discussion, Zuloaga stated: “Everyone’s going from fear to FOMO” around AI.
“Our customers are moving towards “We’ve got to be using automation and AI to hire these days,” she noted.
HR may be on board with AI, but employees and candidates are more reluctant – HireVue’s data showed that only a quarter said they believe AI will help them more than it will hurt them.
“There’s still confusion” around the use of AI in hiring – Kilpack noted that one common misconception is you’re “never going to get to talk to a human”.
But, in reality, Zuloaga shared that AI can create a process “where humans can truly come in and do thing things that humans are good at, and automation can do the things that automation is good at”.
HR needs to nail comms around AI
The key to alleviating these concerns around AI is better and more transparent communication from HR leaders.
During the webinar, Kilpack and Zuloaga shared their top tips on how HR leaders can choose vendors to support them in achieving trust and transparency around AI. Hint, being backed by science and data is essential.
“AI can solve so many things, but if you’re not getting the basics right, if you’re not communicating well to candidates and setting up a good expectation, it doesn’t matter how good the tool is,” noted Kilpack.
Since they’re seeing HireVue customers thrive through the use of AI in hiring – not just in terms of speed of hire, but also quality of hire and retention – both Zuloaga and Kilpack are optimistic and excited about the future of AI.
Zuloaga noted that she can see how candidates are going to benefit from AI in the hiring process – it takes out a lot of the leg work, as well as helping them with skills assessments.
Kilpack zeroed in on the hiring team’s experience. “[AI can free up] time to do creative human interactions.” At the end of the day, “[recruiters] want to talk to people more, so the idea that we can give that back to them is really exciting”.
