Cybersecurity is a huge issue for companies that want to protect their data and employees. As a result, there has been significant investment and a need for employees in this area has grown substantially in recent years.
Google has had improved security on its list of new year resolutions after pledging to invest 10 billion in the sector and the company has now announced that it has acquired Siemplify, an Israel-based cybersecurity startup, that works in end-to-end security services for enterprises.
Siemplify’s work in security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) services has been valued highly by Google as the search engine company has reportedly spent $500 million to complete the acquisition.
Siemplify will now integrate with the Google Cloud Platform and the Chronicle platform.
Discussing the acquisition, Amos Stern, CEO at Siemplify, noted: “We’re excited to join Google Cloud and build on the success we’ve had in the market helping companies address growing security threats.
“Together with Chronicle’s rich security analytics and threat intelligence, we can truly help security professionals transform the security operations center to defend against today’s threats.
Why Google chose Siemplify
Prior to this deal with Google, Siemplify had raised $58 million, with its last round taking place back in May 2019.
The value of Siemplify for Google is clear when its SOAR capabilities are investigated alongside the Chronicle platform. Chronicle was designed by Google to give cybersecurity telemetry by tracking the movement of data across devices.
The SOAR elements provided by Siemplify allows cybersecurity specialists to see where breaches have happened, and how they can be prevented. Enabling this vantage point will undoubtedly be useful as Google adds further security automation features.
Of course, with most enterprises focusing on security amidst a tsunami of breaches around the world, having a clear view into breaches and using automation to prevent them could be incredibly valuable.
Sunil Potti, general manager of Google Cloud Security, discussed the acquisition in a blog post: “The Siemplify platform is an intuitive workbench that enables security teams to both manage risk better and reduce the cost of addressing threats.
“Siemplify allows Security Operation Center (SOC) analysts to manage their operations from end-to-end, respond to cyber threats with speed and precision, and get smarter with every analyst interaction.
“The technology also helps improve SOC performance by reducing caseloads, raising analyst productivity, and creating better visibility across workflows.”
It looks like exciting times are ahead for Google’s security teams, and it will be interesting to see how the company continues to invest in protecting its data and people.
