Today HireVue, a leader in virtual interviewing and assessment technology, announced the acquisition of AllyO, a recruiting chatbot and automated workflow software.
HireVue was the first digital/video interview provider to reach scale in the global enterprise market, launching in 2004. Since that time, through organic product growth and across four previous acquisitions they’ve expanded into skills and behavioral assessments as well as automation in interview scheduling.
The AllyO acquisition extends HireVue’s reach into “top-of-the-funnel” candidate engagment via chat with a fully automated conversational interface, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
I sat down with HireVue CEO / Chairman, Kevin Parker today to discuss the deal and this has the potential to be a good deal for all constituencies: customer and employees of both firms, and while the terms of the deal are not announced it seems that investors should be happy with both the short and long term prospects that AllyO’s capabilities will afford the HireVue platform.
We have several customers in common. As part of that experience, both teams really started to appreciate the value that we could deliver to both candidates and customers by having an integrated approach to this.

HireVue is a mature leader in the HR technology space with 700 customers in 41 countries and providing its software in 30 languages.
They’ve already invested in the kind of scale and security that differentiates them for global enterprise customers. For example, HireVue is one of a few HR technology firms in the U.S. FedRAMP program, which provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud-based systems.
While AllyO, a fast-growing startup that entered the market in 2015, will require some work before it reaches that level of security and scale, for customers concerned about infosec and scale, being part of the HireVue suite of products and eventually platform sets these chat and AI capabilities apart from the existing pack of vendors in the conversational recruiting tech category.
