Discover the importance of frontline worker tools.

The way the world of work is discussed leaves a misleading impression. Given the amount of talk about remote and hybrid working, you’d be forgiven for thinking the majority of workers sit down in front of a computer. The fact is they don’t.
In fact, Microsoft claims that over 2 billion of the global workforce are frontline staff. Naturally, this creates a market for tools to help HR teams to communicate with these millions of workers who are often overlooked.
This climate has seen HR communication app Flip increase in value as it amassed 200 customers and 1 million users. Flip enables frontline workers to message each other, receive notifications from management, and swap shifts.
In a blog post, Flip explained its success: “Over the past year, we have become one of the leading providers of employee apps in Europe. We were thus able to increase our revenue six-fold and quadruple our number of employees.
“We achieved this mainly because of our strong team, great partners, and our focus on the needs of the deskless workforce.”
In a world where frontline staff are needed more than ever, Flip has proved important to its customer base. As a result, the company has raised $30 million in a Series A round.
The funding round was led by HV Capital and Notion Ventures. Additionally, existing investors Cavalry Ventures and LEA Partners supported the extra funding.
Flip’s strategy
Given Flip is under four years old, it’s natural that the company now wants to spread its wings and reach more customers around the world.
Ann Kathrin Stärkel, head of growth and marketing at Flip, reflected on the company’s journey in a LinkedIn post: “I joined Flip exactly two years ago and sometimes I can’t even believe how much has happened since then and how fast we have grown.
“Our goal going forward? Nothing less than revolutionizing internal communication between all employees and being able to say: Deskless work will never be the same again!
“I’m really excited for everything that’s about to come and look forward to another thrilling year – proud to be a #Flipstar & especially proud of our entire team!”
Jos White of Notion Ventures also shared excitement in a company statement and discussed plans for expansion within Flip: “Flip offers a chance for every deskless employee to truly participate in their own company’s communication process.
“There is huge potential in actively integrating these employees. We look forward to supporting Flip with our expertise and experience as it expands in the English-speaking market.”
Time will tell if Flip can live up to its potential.
