Companies are embracing hiring from anywhere in the new distributed world of work.
But they can only do it with the help of HR tech.
Meet the latest hiring from anywhere unicorn, Oyster.

The pandemic has made it clear that employees do not need to work in the same place to be productive or engaged at work.
Remote work has given rise to the concept of working from anywhere. In this context, employers are also realizing that they no longer have to hire workers who live a commutable distance from their offices – instead they can hire from anywhere in the world.
This is much easier said than done, of course.
Hiring from anywhere tech companies are therefore booming, winning clients and gaining investment.
Hot on the heels of Remote and Deel becoming unicorns, global employment startup Oyster has joined them.
This comes as Oyster closes a $150 million Series C, which brings its valuation to $1 billion and its total funding to $227 million.
📣 We've got big news 📣
We've raised $150 Million in Series C funding, at a $1 billion-plus valuation! 🎉
The Series C round was led by Georgian; Salesforce Ventures, Okta, and Endeavour Catalyst also participated. Existing investors – like Slack, PayPal Ventures and Indeed’s HR Tech Investments – also took part.
The investment comes on the back of a stellar year for Oyster – it closed a $53 million Series B in July, and it increased its revenue twenty-fold. Oyster also grew its team to 500 and its customers spent $200 million acquiring talent in 2021 (including $26 million in emerging economies).
A bright future for Oyster
Talking about the funding, CEO and co-founder Tony Jamous said: “Our mission, to create a more equal world by helping companies everywhere hire people anywhere, fuels everything that we do.
“It’s thanks to the strength and impact of that mission that we have been able to grow our team and business in such an unprecedented way. We’re thrilled to work with Georgian and our investor partners on this step of the journey.”
Georgian lead investor Margaret Wu added: “The Oyster team is one of the most mission-aligned companies we’ve ever seen.
“They’re the kind of company we deeply admire—not just a unicorn, but an ‘impact-unicorn,’ a business that creates enormous value as the direct result of its social impact mission.
“We’re eager to support them as they lead the world into a new era of work.”
Oyster is planning to use this influx of funding to continue to develop its platform, as well as to live its mission.
