Global Human Risk Management (HRM) platform, Mimecast, has announced the acquisition of Code42, a leader in insider threat management and data loss prevention.
Mimecast states that the deal marks a “crucial step” in the businesses plans to revolutionize how organizations manage and mitigate human-centered security risks, while also allowing room to expand on the success of existing technology partnerships.
In an exclusive conversation, Mimecast’s CEO, Marc Van Zadelhoff, discusses what this acquisition means for both businesses, and what future plans are in the pipeline.
Cementing Mimecast’s position at the forefront of human risk management
As a market-leader for insider threat management and data loss prevention, Code42 enables companies to seamlessly protect critical data from exposure, loss, leak and theft.
Through the acquisition, these expertise will help Mimecast to gain comprehensive visibility and strategic insight across the expanding attack surface.
This acquisition strengthens Mimecast’s position at the forefront of human risk management, transforming how organizations manage and stay ahead of internal and external threats,” Van Zadelhoff says.
In fact, according to Mimecast’s Threat Intelligence Report for Q3 last year, HR and recruitment services experienced the highest number of attacks involving malicious malware and phishing links.
Cybercriminals often target HR departments because they serve as gateways to sensitive Private Personal Information (PPI).
Zadelhoff continues: “Due to the nature of this confidential information, cybercriminals believe that organizations may pay a premium to retrieve this data and keep it from entering the public domain.
“That’s why the addition of Code42’s risk management capabilities to the Mimecast portfolio is a significant next step, it means our customers gain enhanced visibility into potentially risky employee actions and the use of corporate data.
“This integration not only helps minimize exposure to insider threats but also equips organizations with the tools needed to safeguard their most valuable assets and help ensure optimum response times to any breaches that do occur.”
This announcement builds on Mimecast’s earlier acquisition of Elevate Security as well as the adoption of its new Human Risk Management platform, which includes a groundbreaking Human Risk Management Dashboard.
“This innovative tool provides unparalleled visibility across collaborative environments, empowering organizations, and HR departments to identify and mitigate security threats proactively,” Zadelhoff concludes.
Once the acquisition is complete, Mimecast will continue to maintain and support Code42’s existing customer base.
The financial terms have not yet been disclosed.
Stay tuned in future months for more updates on Mimecast’s acquisition of Code42.
