The pandemic led to many people losing their jobs, and the ‘Great Resignation‘ saw millions re-evaluate what they want from work. Safe to say, the job market has seen a lot of ups and downs in the last two years.
At the moment, many companies are trying to hire talent and fill skill gaps. However, few businesses are doing this at the scale of convenience store giant7-Eleven, and its subsidiariesSpeedway and Stripes.
Alongside independent franchise owners and operators, 7-Eleven will be hosting a National Hiring Event on May 3. The event will be hosted across more than 13,000 stores in the US and Canada as the stores look for passionate, customer-focused employees for 60,000 jobs
7-Eleven’s bold hiring strategy
As part of this hiring event, 7-Eleven will be looking for entry-level candidates, management roles, and even support positions. This is a large undertaking and the stores will enable applications in-store and online.
Perhaps the most interesting element of this large hiring strategy is the fact that candidates will be offered same-day interviews, as well as in-person on-the-spot job offers.
This significant streamlining of the hiring process may help the company reach a larger group of people, and also enable stores to fill gaps in the workforce immediately.
For IT positions and technical roles, candidates will be encouraged to use online services, and follow are more traditional, slower process.
Discussing the hiring event, Rankin Gasaway, 7-Eleven executive vice-president and chief administrative officer, commented: “For more than 90 years, 7-Eleven has been innovating to meet customer needs, and 2022 is presenting our family of brands with more exciting growth opportunities than ever across the country.
“We and our franchisees take pride in providing associates with career advancement, flexible work schedules, and competitive pay, and we welcome you to come learn and grow with 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes.”
The importance of frontline workers
Evidently, 7-Eleven places value on frontline staff and understands that flexible work that helps with career development is highly desired by job seekers.
As businesses fight attrition from these kinds of roles, giving frontline workers benefits has never been so important.
In an interview with UNLEASH, Benedikt Ilg, the co-founder and CEO of communication platform Flip, commented: “We are now in a war for talent and for deskless workers.
“For example, CEOs of the biggest retail and manufacturing companies tell us it’s really difficult to find a store manager, or it’s insanely difficult to find really good people on the shop floor, so employee retention is so important right now.”
7-Eleven has a plan to onboard frontline staff, the next step will be retaining them.
