Oneteam: One workforce app to rule them all
Jon gets five minutes with Oneteam, our startup winner from this year’s Paris show, about why an app that pulls it all together is the future, and what’s next for them event-wise.
Why You Should Care
A short conversation with the winners of this year's UNLEASH startup competition in Paris.
Congratulations to Oneteam and all the other entrants - the judges had some tough decisions to make but they had their winner.
Hear how Oneteam came into being in this chat with editor Jon Kennard after UNLEASH World.
We join the conversation, edited for clarity, as Ruben gives UNLEASH a bit of background on why Oneteam was created in the first place.

Ruben Wieman: So many years ago, I was working as a frontline employee at a supermarket chain, and then a restaurant chain. And what I noticed there is that when I was hired, I got a paper onboarding manual. I was added to many WhatsApp groups, there was an intranet and newsletter, bulletin boards, elearning systems, your payslip you got by mail, your schedule is printed out in the canteen, it was very, very messy, and the company used a lot of different tools and I saw that the company did their best to make the frontline successful engaged. But they didn’t really succeed with that.
And I was like, Why don’t these companies have one great app where everything for the employee just comes together? And I found out actually 80% of the global workforce works on the frontline. And these companies have a hard time connecting with them. And the only solution I saw is that everyone has their own personal device, their own personal smartphone, and why isn’t there one app that brings everything together. So that’s what I thought. Luckily, I was very young and naive back then.
And I was like, that shouldn’t be too hard, turned out to be a very big project to create an app like that. And luckily, to meet my co founder, we started building and talking to customers. And yeah, it’s been a great journey ever since.
And now we help companies like H&M, Domino’s, big hotel chains, but our sweet spot is mid-market companies. Because what we do is we have one platform for our internal communication, onboarding, elearning surveys, forms and checklists, integrations. So it’s a really all in one solution and we feel that mid market is the best fit for that, because usually they’re very small HR teams and don’t have the time or budget to install and implement all these different apps. And they really want to have something all in one.
Jon Kennard: Thanks for the context. At UNLEASH World I didn’t get to meet you there. So I didn’t really get time to explore much of the startup experience, actually. So let’s talk a bit about that. How was your show? How was the experience? And I’ve got a follow up question, which I think it’s quite important, which is when you met other startups, did you find things that were sort of commonalities in terms of challenges that you were facing? Or did you also find companies who were like, I’ve never experienced that? And how are these other companies solving their own problems?
RW: It was great to meet all the other companies, many of which you’ve never heard about. So it’s a great place at any age to meet all these different companies. Of course, there are all the well known companies, but especially a lot of startups that we’ve met, and absolutely some brilliant solutions. And yeah, it was great to meet all the other founders and hear the challenges that they’re facing.
JK: So looking to 2023 and beyond. Will we be seeing you in Las Vegas? What are the plans, are you going to be featuring in more shows, you’re looking to expand into other markets?
RW: Our platform is available globally but we are focusing a lot on the European market and in 2023 also the US market, so we will definitely be there in Las Vegas. We already have some customers in the US but we want to scale there much faster. And we are able to do it at the UNLEASH event in Las Vegas. I’ve never been there but it sounds great, great location and you will definitely see us there.
JK: Yeah, it’s a new venue for us too. It looks incredible – we’ve had a few walk rounds of it already and really excited to move to Caesars Forum next April. For today though, Ruben thanks so much for your time and hopefully I’ll be seeing you again very soon.
RW: See you soon. See you there.
