Mr. Kienle holds a master’s degree from London School of Economics (LSE) and a double-degree from CESEM Reims, a French business school in partnership with ESB Reutlingen, a Germany-based international business school. He has over 20 years of experience in Human Resources. He began his career with the L’Oréal Group in Germany as a Junior Product-manager in 1999 before joining the HR department in 2001. He first held positions in Recruitment & Employer Branding at L’Oréal Germany, before moving to the Learning department in L’Oréal’s Active Cosmetics Division, based in Paris in 2003. These experiences enabled him to enter his first HR generalist role as Human Resources Director (HRD) for the Consumer Products Division back in Germany in 2006.
In 2009, he was appointed Country HRD L’Oréal Belgilux and one year later HRD L’Oréal Benelux. In this role, the creation of the first Benelux Hub for the L’Oréal Group and the change management process related to this transformational project was one of his key achievements. Then, he joined the L’Oréal Headquarter in Clichy as HRD of the Consumer Products Division for the Western Europe Zone where his focus was on the recruitment and development of talents across this zone. In 2015, he took over the role of Country HRD for the German subsidiary. His key achievements consisted mainly in the transformation of the organization by focusing on employee engagement, enablement, and leadership excellence.
In the past four years, Mr. Kienle has been in charge as Global HRD for the multi-divisional L’Oréal Travel Retail business. Under his leadership, Travel Retail has become a “talent incubator” for the L’Oréal Group and a best-in-class example of an agile, modern and entrepreneurial organization.
Michael Kienle, born and raised in Tübingen/Germany, lives in France. He is married and a strong advocate of diversity in the workplace.
