Pierre-Alexandre Balland is the Chief Data Scientist of the Centre for European Policy Studies and Visiting Professor at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is also Associate Professor at Utrecht University and Research Associate at the Toulouse AI institute, and previously held positions at the MIT Media Lab and UCLA. He currently serves in the ESIR group that advises the European Commission on its innovation and industrial policy. Pierre-Alexandre is an economist by training and one of Europe’s leading experts on complex economic systems, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technologies. His core applied work is about leveraging AI and data science to solve societal challenges.
