It’s that time of year when we look back and see the highlights and patterns of our year whether it’s through Spotify or other apps.
Given the incredible amount of people that used Zoom, it’s only fair that the communication platform reflects on how users used it.
The company spoke to 1,700 people about their virtual meeting styles, habits, and preferences over the last year.
Safe to say, some of the results may surprise you.
What Zoom found
In terms of video call etiquette, Zoom found that 41% of people have attended a call with a nice top, but PJ bottoms on off-screen.
Fortunately, some of the pressure is off as 68% of correspondents say that they dress carefully for meetings.
Additionally, 26% of people don’t shower before calls and 47% of users believe it is never okay to eat during a call.
There is also a large percentage of correspondents who have used the platform for fun. 34% of Zoom users have attended a fitness or cooking class, and 73% of users have attended happy-hour drinks or a game night on the platform.
When conducting these varied meetings, many have used backgrounds. The most popular ones found in this survey were outdoor landscapes (26%), blurred background (25%), and a business or company background (20%).
These backgrounds were chosen with good reason as 43% of Zoom users cleaned only the part of the room visible on camera.
Even when a carefully selected part of the room was cleared, it wasn’t always safe. 36% of correspondents had a pet show up during a meeting and 43% had their kids step in during their meetings.
Outside of the four walls that we call home, Zoom came with us. The company found that people took calls in the car (45%), in bed (42%), and at the coffee shop, restaurant or bar (31%).
Finally, when it came to what we were saying in 2021, we were surprisingly united. 57% of correspondents had said “can everyone see my screen?” and 21% declared “next slide, please!”. Of course, the most common thing that was said was “you’re on mute” (71%).
Zoom has expanded rapidly over the next year and this has been reflected by its use in 200 countries and territories around the world, and by the fact that its teams have increased significantly.
With hybrid work looking set to stay, Zoom will undoubtedly have another successful year in 2022.
